I fondly remember the times in my parents’ car on the way back from a family outing. The rain was falling on the rear window of our car and would projects fantastical shapes onto the back seat just as the freeway lights hit it. Yes I used to live in a country with record days of rainfall - no it wasn’t Seattle- where all freeways were lit at night, hence the fantastical improvised and ever-changing filmography. Other times it was the spectacle of shapes and figures in the clouds creating unending scenarios. And there were hidden scenarios galore in the bosom of childhood.
As we all know myriads of untold beautiful stories lay hidden in plain sight, waiting to be exposed.
The creative spirit has many expressions many of which we tend to overlook. Is it perhaps that we don’t honor and embrace them wholeheartedly and therefore don’t think of ourselves as inventive, creative beings.
Art, as life, is never created in a vacuum but in a noisy intermingling of influences, ideas, music, dreams etc.
In our increasingly accelerating world of more concepts, ideas and more “ready-to-consume-stuff” there is a place of silence where time is needed to process these influences and reconstitute them in art form or in something that fills our heart.
So next time you have that irresistible urge to put together that special flower bouquet, to design a signature table arrangement or to bake that traditional family pie with a zest of innovation, you may want to think of it in a new light. Look at your process with an artistic eye and be inspired! Celebrate your own creative genius as often as you can. It will pay back dividends of joy, self-reliance, gratitude and abundance!
